The
Fayette
County
Business
Park
represents a cooperative public-private effort to foster
economic development and create quality employment
opportunities. Located in the Route 40 and
New Salem Road
area of North and
South
Union
Townships
in
Fayette
County
, development of the 270-acre site is a unique and
revolutionary opportunity for both the immediate community and
regional area. By creating a partnership between local
government, private developers, lending institutions, and
state and federal agencies, the project represents a
comprehensive approach to stimulating economic development
activities.
Development of the
Business
Park
began in 2000 when the Fayette County Commissioners
made the decision to convey the property to the Redevelopment
Authority. This decision was made in part due to the
Authority’s vast experience with implementing community
development and infrastructure-related projects. In
addition to conveying the property, the Commissioners also
provided $2,000,000 through the Fayette County Bond Pool in
order to provide funding for initial infrastructure
improvements. The Redevelopment Authority and
South
Union
Township
also provided funding for this initial phase and all of this
local investment, in turn, was utilized by the Authority to
leverage other state, federal, and private-sector resources.
In addition to working diligently over the past several years
to install necessary infrastructure, the Redevelopment
Authority has also worked on marketing the
Business
Park
and developing partnerships and agreements with private-sector
developers. The most recent phase of development at the
Business
Park
includes completion of the Matthew Drive Extension Road
Construction Project and the installation of additional
infrastructure improvements utilizing $2,000,000 provided
through the
Commonwealth
of
Pennsylvania
’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program.
